National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities Divyangjan Regional Centre, Chennai Admission Process

The National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (Divyangjan) Regional Centre, Chennai, enables the education-based empowerment of the blind. The admission process at NIIPVDRC Chennai is aimed towards identifying highly motivated and interested in providing support and teaching to visually impaired pupils. The admission is purely through merit on the basis of qualifying examinations and/or entrance tests. The process will be as defined by the guidelines of the state government or the administration of union territory or by the affiliated university.

Admissions into both programs at NIIPVRDC, Chennai rely primarily on the merit secured by the candidates in qualifying examinations, entrance test, or any other mode of selection prescribed by the concerned authorities. Application Process

Admission into NIIPVDRC Chennai involves the following processes:

1. Checking the Eligibility: Candidates must check their eligibility to the required program for which admission has to be sought to either B.Ed or D.Ed in Special Education. 

2. Application Form: Acquire and fill out the application form. This could probably be accessed on the official website of the institute or from the admission office on the institute's premises.

3. Document Submission: Candidates must submit all the required documents besides the completely filled application form, which might include:

  • Mark sheets for qualifying examinations
  • Entrance exam scorecard, if applicable
  • Proof of date of birth
  • Category certificate (if applicable)
  • Other documents mentioned by the institution

4. Entrance Examination: Attend the entrance examination if required by the respective authority, either the state government, UT administration, or affiliated university.

5. Merit List: A merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in qualifying exam and/or entrance test.

6. Counselling and Seat Allotment: Shortlisted candidates will thereafter be called for counselling, during which seats will be allocated on the basis of merit and availability.

7. Fee Payment: In the case of seat allocation, candidates will pay the prescribed fees to finalize their admission.

9. Enrollment: Successful candidates will be enrolled in their respective programs once all these steps have been accomplished.

Degree wise Admission Process

B.Ed Special Education: One of the comprehensive full-time courses in vogue at NIIPVDRC, Chennai, is the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in Special Education. This programme aims to train teachers specifically intended for students affected by visual impairment. Like other disciplines of study, eligibility and merit shall form the basis of admission into the B.Ed Special Education course. Such merit is based on the aggregate obtainable in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. Admission may involve any other method prescribed by the state government, union territory administration, or the affiliated university. This course has an approved intake of 30 per annum.

D.Ed Special Education: D.Ed in Special Education is the second course that NIIPVDRC offers. Similar to the B.Ed course, admission into the D.Ed in Special Education is based on merit. Selection is based on marks obtained in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. The admission may also comprise any other method of selection as per the policy of the state government or UT administration. This program also admits 30 students yearly.

Both programs impart skills and knowledge necessary for effective support and instruction of visually impaired pupils.
