Nigam Institute of Engineering and Technology (NIET), Baramunda, is among the top engineering colleges in Odisha. The institute provides a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in different branches of engineering. NIET follows an admission process to choose meritorious candidates based on national and state-level entrance examinations.
The admissions in NIET are more or less on an academic year basis, and most of the courses begin in August-September. Most of the admissions to undergraduate courses are through JEE Main or OJEE performance as per Government of Odisha norms. Postgraduate admissions, especially for M.Tech, are through OJEE.
For B.Tech courses, the general eligibility requirement is passing 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects. Though percentage requirements are not specified, the candidates should satisfy the minimum requirements of the state government and AICTE.
Application Process
The application process of Nigam Institute of Engineering and Technology differs depending on programme:
For B.Tech programmes:
1. Appear in OJEE or JEE Main according to merit.
2. Become selected with a rank in the concerned entrance test.
3. Join the counseling process organized by the Odisha government.
4. Opt for NIET and the desired B.Tech course during counseling.
5. Take admission at NIET if the seat is reserved.
For M.Tech courses:
1. Appear in and clear the OJEE test.
2. Get registered in the counseling process as advertised by OJEE.
3. Use the counseling and choose NIET and sought M.Tech programme.
4. On allotment, report at NIET for document verification and admission process.
For Diploma programme:
1. Fill application form through centralized admission process carried out by Director of Technical Education, Odisha Government.
2. Undergo the counseling process.
3. Choose NIET and sought Diploma course while counseling.
4. Join the admission process in NIET after seat allotment is done.
Degree wise Admission Process
B.Tech: There are eight B.Tech courses at NIET, which are Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Automobile Engineering. Each of the courses has an intake of 60 students. The admissions are done on the basis of JEE Main or OJEE marks, according to the guidelines published by the Government of Odisha.
M.Tech: There are two courses of M.Tech offered at the institute, i.e., Thermal Engineering and Power Electronics and Drives, having the intake capacity of 18 students per course. Admission is provided through OJEE according to the rules of the Odisha government. The candidates should have a relevant B.E./B.Tech degree to be considered for admission in these courses.
Diploma: NIET offers five Diploma programmes in Metallurgical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering with an intake of 60 students per programme. Centralized admissions are carried out through counseling by the Director of Technical Education, Government of Odisha.
