North Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus, Shillong Admission 2025: Dates, Registration, Fees, Eligibility

The North-Eastern Hill University, Tura Campus, Shillong (NEHU Tura), is one of the premier universities in the country. The whole admission process in NEHU Tura is aimed at choosing only the best out of the most capable students who apply for admission into various undergraduate, master, and doctoral programs. Mainly, national-level entrance examinations are there for admissions without any hassles of prejudices, giving a very fair and competitive. The whole cycle is intended to commence in the months of preceding the academic year when the academic year actually commences around August-September. Most of the postgraduate programs at NEHU Tura are at present based on the scores from the Common University Entrance Test for Postgraduate programs (CUET-PG) conducted by the National Testing Agency. 

This test is the bedrock of the different courses offered by the institution for admission purposes. Almost all programs have their basic eligibility requirements. For instance, in general admission into postgraduate courses, such a candidate must have an undergraduate degree in the same stream from a distance-learning as well as from a university with proper recognition. Other minimum academic requirements such as percentage or CGPA for different programs may differ. For example, MBA must have a valid CUET(PG) or MAT Score from AIMA, and M.Sc. in agricultural sciences is based on performance in both qualifying examination and CUET(PG).

Application Process

The NEHU Tura application process varies from program to program but generally follows the following steps: 

1. Registering for CUET (PG): For most Postgraduate programs, a candidate must register for and appear in date, time and place set by NTA for the CUET (PG) examination.

2. Application to the University: Once obtained with CUET (PG) scorings, candidates need to apply to NEHU Tura through the official website of the University or according to instructions given for different programs.

3. Document Submission: Usually, the documents submitted for application include:

• Application form duly filled in
• CUET (PG) score card
• Degree certificates and mark sheets of qualifying examinations
• Passport-size photographs
• Category certificates (if any)
• Other documents pertaining to that specific program

4. Entrance Test GDBI186774-9: Group discussion and personal interview will be available for some specific programs like MBA for the shortlisted candidates.

5. Merit List Publication: Based on the selection criteria of each program, the university makes and publishes merit lists.

In cases of MBA programs, the final mode will have group discussions and personal interviews for selection in addition to the previous step based on CUET (PG) scores.

Among others, score obtained in the qualifying degree examination and CUET (PG) are used for admission into graduate programs in agricultural sciences and MCA.

Degree-wise Admission Process

MBA: Admission to MBA programs at NEHU Tura like Agri-business Management emphasizes a composite evaluation methodology. A candidate will have to obtain a valid CUET(PG) or MAT (AIMA) score. The final selection will be based on a blend of the following: CUET(PG) score (80% weightage), group discussion (10% weightage), and personal interview (10% weightage).

The M.Sc. Programs: Some of the M.Sc. programs available at NEHU Tura would include Food Technology, Floriculture and Landscaping, Vegetable Science and Fruit Science. The selection into these programs would be on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and CUET (PG). The university considers both methods for a more rounded assessment of candidates.

MCA: The approach for admission to Master in Computer Applications (MCA) at NEHU Tura is unique. Though score in qualifying examination and CUET (PG) will be taken into account for admission to this program, candidates with the Computer Science or Computer Applications background will be given an additional 5% marks in the evaluation.

MA Programs: The MA courses at NEHU Tura would include varied disciplines such as Education, English, Garo, History, and Archaeology. Specific details to each program have not been provided, but such programs will likely also consider CUET(PG) scores and performance in the qualifying degree for the purpose of admission.

Ph.D. programs: NEHU Tura offers different Ph.D. programs in various disciplines. Indirectly, the admission process for the Ph.D. program(s) usually involves a combination of entrance test, interview, and evaluation of the research proposal.
