Surya College of Engineering and Technology, Villupuram Admission Process

The Surya College of Engineering and Technology (SCET), Villupuram, and provides quality engineering education in Tamil Nadu. The college offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in engineering and management fields. The admission processes here are adopted to painstakingly filter able and worthy candidates through various national and state-level entrance examinations.  SCET admission cycles largely commence sometime in May to June and ends just before the start of classes in August-September for the academic year. The institute accepts applications through different channels for different programs and modes of admission. Generally, for undergraduate engineering, three major quotas are followed for admissions: Government Quota, Management Quota, and NRI Quota.

For the Government and Management Quotas, admissions are given on the basis of TNEA counselling. Candidates should apply for TNEA counselling through the secretary of TNEA. The NRI quota would be for candidates whose parents are abroad and admissions are based on merit.  The minimum eligibility for any undergraduate program requires completion of 10+2 from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as the required subjects. For postgraduate programs, a bachelor's degree must have been completed by candidates in a relevant discipline from any accredited university.

Application Process

Surya College of Engineering and Technology has a different application process in accordance with the chosen program and quota:

For B.Tech/BE programs:

1. Government and Management Quota:

  • Through the official TNEA website, apply for TNEA counselling.
  • Fill the application form and pay the relevant fees.
  • Upload relevant documents as indicated by TNEA.
  • Attend the counselling process as per the announcement made by TNEA.
  • In case of seat allotment, report to SCET for verification of documents and other formalities.

2. NRI Quota:

  • Direct SCET communication is advised for the application process.
  • Proof of NRI status and copies of academic credentials should be submitted.
  • The merit list is prepared for selection.

For MBA and M.Tech programs:

  • Apply for TANCET in the official TANCET site.
  • Appear for the TANCET exam on the given exam date.
  • After the publication of results, take part in the counselling process as per the guidelines provided by Anna University or the respective authority.
  • Candidates allotted seats at SCET are required to visit the college for document verification and admission formalities.

Degree-wise Admission Process

B.Tech/BE: B.Tech/BE programs offered by the SCET are Computer Science Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Civil Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Cyber Security, and Agricultural Engineering. As for admission, the procedures are carried out via TNEA counselling for Government Quota and Management Quota for all the programs with 60 seats in each program.

For MBA: An MBA program with an approved 60 seats is provided in the college. However, details of the admission procedure are absent; therefore, one can safely assume that admissions are based on TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) scores and followed by TANCET counselling.

M.Tech: The SCET conducts the programs of M.Tech in CAD CAM, Construction Engineering and Management, Computer Science Engineering, and VLSI Design. However, depending on the specialization, the approved intake may vary from 12 to 24 seats. The detailed admission procedure is not mentioned, although in all probability, those seeking admission for M.Tech programs in Tamil Nadu are expected to do so through TANCET scores or GATE scores and through counselling.

Documents ordinarily required for admission include -

  • 10th and 12th mark sheets and certificates
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Community Certificate (if applicable)
  • Nativity Certificate (if applicable)
