i want to be a professor so after bsc nursing i have to do msc nursing is it necessary to do phd to become a professor and to become a professor for which exam i have prepare and while doing msc nursing would i be able to earn or not during my msc nursing
Dear Candidate ,
To become a professor in nursing you must complete B.Sc Nursing followed by Msc nursing to become an assistant professor . While a PHD is not mandatory initially , it highly recommended and often required for promotions in most universities . You may need to qualify exams like UGC -NET or university specific requirement tests , especially for teaching in central or state universities . During M.Sc. Nursing , you can earn through part-time clinical work , teaching assistant roles , or stipends offered by some institutions .
If your aim is to teach in nursing, you will probably have to earn an M.Sc. Nursing to begin with, along with ideally a Ph.D. in Nursing or something similar.
Step-by-step Path:
A B.Sc. in Nursing takes 4 years and can only be completed at a college approved by INC.
After M.Sc. Nursing (2 years), you can become an assistant professor or lecturer in Nursing at the UG level.
A Ph.D. in Nursing is not required for starting out, but it is needed to become a professor or principal in universities or leading institutions.
Teaching Positions:
Tutor/Clinical Instructor – After obtaining the B.Sc. (only at colleges)
A person can become an Assistant Professor after attaining a recognized M.Sc. from the Indian Nursing Council.
Usually, an associate professor or professor is required to have a Ph.D. along with many years of teaching practice.
Bonus Tip:
If necessary, you should also complete NET or apply under IND-CEN and UGC hiring standards.
Hello!
If you want to be a professor, you need to prepare for the NET exam. A PHD is not always necessary to be a professor but qualifying NET is a must. If you have an MSc degree and qualify NET, you are eligible to be an assistant professor. And you can definitely work on projects and internships while doing your MSc which can help you to earn.
Hope this helps. All the best!
