Hi vikram,

Yes you are eligible for both GATE and IES exam as your latest educational qualification is B.Tech which is necessary criteria for both the exams.

Hello Aspirant,

No branch is easy and no branch is difficult in UPSC IES examinations. You just need to have good command, in depth understanding, and strong basics in you own respective branch.
Absorb the syllabus and prepare accordingly.
Aspirants  have cracked IES exam with Mechanical as well as CSE so it does not matter which branch you take just prepare whole heartedly.

I hope this helps

Hi Siddharth,

IES Indian Engineering Services conducted by UPSC that is Union Public Service Commission. Yes every engineering students are eligible for IES exam. Students with computer science branch are also eligible for giving the exam. To apply for IAS exam candidate age should be between 21 years to 30 years. But IES have only four branches in it and they are as follows.

1) mechanical engineering

2) electrical engineering

3) electronics and telecommunication engineering

4) civil engineering

So you need to select one of these as your course for IES.

I hope your operation has been answered properly.

All the best for your future!

Hello.
If we understand the syllabus of the IES exam with the help of Venn diagram  so it will be the universal set of the syllabus of other entrance exams so if you follow the below tips then you definitely can score good marks in IES exam.
  • Always follow standard books for the preparation.
  • Don't  forget to solve previous year question paper it will give you an idea of questions.
  • Go  with each topic of the syllabus as syllabus is very vast so first try to cover topics then you can go with the extra study.
  • Revise  yourself in regular interval of time.
  • Test  yourself on weekly basis.
Best  of luck.

Hello,

The only eligibility criteria for UPSC is to have attained 21 years age and have passed graduation in any discipline from a recognized university, even final year students are eligible for this.

Now,coming to your question you can appear for UPSC even in your final year as I said. If you've decided for once and all you'll appear for UPSC,then you can go ahead with this choice directly.

As you come from science background, you'll be well acquainted with the syllabus for GATE or even IES for that matter while in UPSC you've to study a lot of humanities subject such as economics, history, geography, polity etc science will be there but in limited way.

It all boils down to your vision why do you want to go for gate,is it for higher education or jobs, and are you looking at it as a part of work experience to apply for upsc later.

Hi Deepanshu,

Electronic telecommunications combines the discipline of both electronic and communication. Commonly in graduate courses it is referred as Electronics and communication engineering. Thus there is no need to get confused with the nomenclature. The syllabus is same.

All the best!

Hello Abhimanyu,

If you are in Mechanical branch and preparing for GATE, the most important part is your core subjects. Lay more stress on those. Also practise engineering mathematics questions, as they account for around 20% of the questions. For more preparation regarding gate please refer the below mentioned article:

The syllabus link is below:

Hope this Helps

Hi...

IES Management College and Research Center ,Mumbai has the cut off of 70 above percentile for Pharmaceutical and General Health Care Management. So it os difficult to get converted to the college.

But still you can apply because the cut off many vary every year depending on the applicants and various other factors. There are chances of getting into the college if you do well in Group Discussed, Essay writing, performance in psychometric test .

Because the score which you have got im your entrance is just considered for 35 percentage for the total score.

The following criteria  gives you the detail for the admission and the weightages given to each section:

Marks in Grade 10: 5 percentage

Marks in Grade 12: 5 percentage

Performance in Group Discussion: 5 percentage

Performance in Essay writing: 5 percentage

Work Experience: 5 percentage

Aptitude or the entrance exam score: 35 percentage

Performance in psychometric test: 20 percentage

Performance in Personal Interview:  2 percentage

Total weightage: 100 percentage

The interview questions will be based on your profile. The skills which you have mentioned.in your resume. The most often question which will.be asked is introduction about yourself.and why you want the particular college and why do you want the particular course. They can also ask the questions from.the current issues and about your under graduation too. There is nothing like we can predict the questions. It is based on the interviewers and how do you answer the questions. It is better to know about your strengths and weakness. Even though do do tell about your weakness to the interviewer.

For the Group Discussion you will mostly get the current issue which has to be discussed. It is not that you have to keep speaking in the discussion, it is all about the way you handle.the situation and your body language. Keep calm even though you do not know the particular topic just try to.grab the points from the others and you can make your points later. You can sometimes get abstract topics.

Best luck...

hello aspirant, gate exam is taken if you want job in a government sector or if you want to go for mtech in IIT's or NIT's. Ies exam is taken to get a job in the engineering sector by the government. It is only for 4 branches-Civil, mechanical, ECE,EEE.

IES exam has vast syllabus compared to gate, Gate has smaller syllabus when compared to IES, you can watch online tutorials and practice sums to crack both the exams.

hope this helps.

Thank you.
