The Muthiah Polytechnic College of Annamalainagar in Chennai has an immaculately structured and crystal-clear admission system for its diplomas, even this AICTE-approved centre of technical knowledge has been bestowing quality technology education for well over six decades. The admission policy of this college is totally based on merits and marks acquired at the SSLC (10th standard) examination.
The policy of admission in Muthiah Polytechnic College adheres to the Government of Tamil Nadu's reservation policy. The policy offers equal opportunity to students from various social categories, i.e., Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST).
Besides the general admissions, Muthiah Polytechnic College also offers a Direct Second Year Admission program. This is offered to those students who pass HSC (Academic & Vocational) or 10+2 Years ITI. The admissions for this scheme are also based on merit, offering the opportunity to students from diverse educational backgrounds to pursue technical education at the college.
Application Process
The Muthiah Polytechnic College application process is easy and normally follows the below steps:
1. Announcement of Admissions: The college issues a notice regarding the commencement of the admission process on its website and local dailies.
2. Application Form: The application form is available at the college office or can be downloaded from the official website.
3. Filling Application: The candidates are required to fill up the application form properly with correct personal and educational details.
4. Submission of Documents: Candidates must submit the following documents along with the completed application form:
- SSLC (10th standard) mark sheet
- Transfer Certificate
- Community Certificate (for BC, MBC, SC, ST candidates)
- Certificates for special categories (if applicable) wherever necessary
5. Submission of Application Form: Duly filled application form and supporting documents should be submitted to the admission office of the college on or before the last date mentioned.
6. Preparation of Merit List: The merit list is prepared by the college based on marks obtained in SSLC and as per the policy of reservation.
7. Counselling and Allotment: Shortlisted candidates are called for counselling, during which they will have the option to choose their preferred course as per rank and vacant seat.

Degree wise Admission Process
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering: Maximum intake in this course is 150 seats. Admission based on SSLC marks is according to the state reservation policy. The duration is three years, with an option of joining at the second year through lateral entry for appropriate candidates.
Diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering: With 135 seats, this course follows the same admission procedure as Mechanical Engineering. Admission is made on the basis of SSLC performance and the reservation policy.
Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering: With 120 seats, this course also follows the same merit-based admission procedure through SSLC marks and the state reservation policy.
Diploma in Civil Engineering: This program has 45 seats and follows the normal admission process based on SSLC marks and reservation policy.
Diploma in Computer Engineering: With 30 seats, this program follows the same admission criteria as other diploma courses under the college.
Diploma in Agricultural Technology: This specialty course also consists of 30 seats and undergoes the regular admission process on the basis of SSLC marks and the state reservation policy.
