Polba Mahavidyalaya, is an affiliated rural college situated at Hooghly, West Bengal. The college offers a wide spectrum of undergraduate programs under the Arts and Science streams. Polba Mahavidyalaya follows a merit-based admission system, thereby giving equal status and opportunity to all students regardless of their financial conditions. Candidates who have qualified to apply for admission to various other undergraduate courses at the college need to have completed their 10+2 examinations or its equivalent from a recognized board. Marks secured in the qualifying examination are the main basis of admission at the college; while certain cut-off marks differ from course to course, overall the admission process is competitive in nature aiming to cater to select the most deserving ones. 

Application Process

The admission procedure at Polba Mahavidyalaya is usually completed after the following stages:

1. Online Application: Candidates must visit the official college website and fill in the online application form. All information filled up must correspond to the 10+2 mark sheet and other relevant documents.

2. Document Upload: Scanned copies of required documents, such as 10+2 mark sheet, pass certificate, character certificate, and recent passport-size photographs, must be uploaded with the application.

3. Application Fee Payment: Candidates must pay their specific application fee online through the payment gateway available on the college website.

4. Merit List Publication: Merit lists will be published by the college for different courses according to the marks obtained by applicants in the 10+2 examinations.

Degree wise Admission Process

BA (Bachelor of Arts): Polba Mahavidyalaya conducts a general BA course broadening its scope to many honors courses. For BA programmes, Polba Mahavidyalaya has an intake capacity of 562 seats under various streams of Arts. Admission to BA Courses is conducted based on the marks secured in the 10+2 Examination concentrating more on relevant subjects.

BA Honors: Honors programs are available in Bengali (68 seats), Sanskrit (68 seats), Philosophy (56 seats), English (51 seats), History (49 seats), Education (49 seats), Political Science (31 seats), and Geography (28 seats). Candidates applying for honors courses must have studied the respective subject in their 10+2 or have a strong academic background in related subjects.

B.Sc (Bachelor of Science): Polba Mahavidyalaya offers B.Sc programs with limited seats. The B.Sc Bioscience program has a total intake capacity of 29 students. Admissions to the B.Sc courses are based on the performance of the candidates in the science subjects at the 10+2 level.

B.Sc Honors: The Honors course of B.Sc is offered in Geography by the college. Applicants to this course must have had a strong foundation in geography and related science subjects in their 10+2 courses.
