BDes MDes full form is Bachelor of Design and Master of Design, it is a dual degree programme. The course duration is five years duration that lasts for five years. The course combines two degrees, a B.Des and an M.Des, into a single course of study. This makes it highly popular among design aspirants, as it saves a year compared to pursuing the two degrees separately, which would take six years in total.
B.Des M.Des is offered to students who have completed their 10+2 from a recognised board or university. To get a B.Des M.Des admission, students need to appear for competitive examinations after which the shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview wherein the final selection will be made.

The fees charged for pursuing an integrated B.Des M.Des programme vastly widely from institute to institute. On average, a student has to pay anywhere from Rs. 2.5 lakhs to even Rs. 30 lakhs for the course.
Apart from tuition fees, some other charges may also be involved such as admission fees, hostel charges, campus renovation and technological development fees, and library fees.
Theoretical and Practical Experience: Most institutes run on a semester-based system wherein students are made familiar with designing via both theoretical teaching and practical experience. So, besides being taught about the history of design, its basic principles, and methods of manufacturing, students will take part in practical projects involving 2D and 3D freehand and digital drawing and prototype development.
Experience of Advanced Technology: They will also be taught the use of advanced technology such as immersive Virtual Reality (VR) and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Dual Degree in Short Span: Students enrolling for this course will attain a dual degree, which will save them from the hassle of applying for a Master’s degree separately.

Candidates will have to appear for a B.Des, M.Des entrance exam to get admission to most colleges. However, exceptions exist wherein simply based on 10+2 marks, candidates will be granted admission.
The main purpose of the admission test is to test a candidate’s basic design knowledge. Aspirants must brush up on their freehand drawing skills and theoretical knowledge of design. The test will be conducted in three stages –
Written Test – This is a nationwide test that will be conducted to test the creative aptitude of the candidate.
Studio Test – Shortlisted candidates may advance to this stage; however, this test is not conducted by all institutes. Here, students will be given problems to which they need to come up with intelligent and creative design solutions.
Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) – Here, candidates will need to take part in healthy debates on design, and a panel of evaluators will oversee and judge based on the candidate’s performance.

A cut-off is the minimum requirement of scores demanded by institutes to determine the eligibility of candidates for enrollment in the respective programmes.
