There are two levels of the course, and only by completing the levels will one be qualified to become a doctor. After completion of MBBS, one can either take up MD specialisation in Hepatology and Gastroenterology, or one can take up a DM after completion of MD in Hepatology and Gastroenterology and then join the hospital as a Gastroenterologist or hepatologist, whichever one wishes to pursue.
The eligibility criterion for the Gastroenterology and Hepatology course is similar to that of the other courses, and the aspiring candidate should qualify for the criteria to get into the profession of medicine.
There is also a minimum cut off mark in certain universities/colleges. Most colleges/universities have similar eligibility criteria, and, some universities ask for the state level entrance exam such as JIPMER and AIIMS for admission.
