Hello..
The selection procedure for this year IIFT exam will start from 2020 January. The selection procedure has two divisions one is that the marks or the percentile obtained in the exam and the second is the Group Discussion(GD) , essay writing and the Personal Interview(PI).
The shortlisted candidates with the minimum criteria of marks in the exam are called for the GD and PI process. The final stage of admission to the particular college is based on the score and the performance in GD and PI.
The three criteria for the short listed candidates are:
1. essay writing
2. Group discussion
3.Personal interview
Candidates are first given with the essay writing with the word limit of 300 words and the time given is 20 minutes. In this the writing skills and the vocabulary is tested.
The next round is Group Discussion. Mainly GD is conducted to check how the candidate works in team. The GD topic can be based on the current issues or any abstract topic , so that the candidates must be aware of all the news and issues happening.
Finally the last round is the Personal Interview where the candidates can be asked for any questions related to their work experience, the achievements or why the want to join the particular college. All the interview questions is based on the interviewer.
The criteria for all these are:
IIFT exam score- 65%
Group Discussion - 15%
Personal Interview-20%
The candidates must be well prepared for the exam as well as Group Discussion and Personal Interview because nearly 2000 candidates were short listed for the final round just for 420 seats .
The seat break up for the total of 420 seats is:
7.5% for Schedule Tribe(ST)
5% for person with disability
15% for Schedule Caste(SC)
27% for Non creamy backward classes(NC BC)
10% for economically weaker sections
35.5% for the general class
To avail these reservations candidates have to mention it in the application form.
The original documents has to be submitted when the candidates are shortlisted and are called for GD and PI
All the best....
Dear Aspirant,
Yes you are eligible for both the exams as for XLRI Jamshedpur there is no minimum requirement of marks for appearing in the exam and for the Indian Institute of foreign trade, cutoff marks are 50% in any graduation for general category students.
Hope this helps. Thanks.
Manage your time accordingly in the exam. That's where a bit of competition ends as people get confused about how to progress. For this you'll need to solve lots of mock exams to be thorough with the habit. Quant is slightly higher than CAT with the focus on geometry, modern math, compared to basic arithmetic. GK is a separate section and it is focused on business awareness with a sprinkling of static and general GK questions.
Coming to the books part, then solve 50 gears papers a book by Ajay Singh and TK SINHA. For verbal ability and reading comprehension section, Word Power Made Easy’ – by Norman Lewis and ‘ Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension for the CAT’ - by Nishit K Sinha.

Dear Aspirant,
Candidates belonging to General category must have secured at least 50% marks in graduation, and candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD categories must have secured a minimum of 45% in graduation are eligible for the exam. That is pretty much it for your graduation. IIFT won't call students on the basis of their Previous Academic Performance but on their performance in IIFT exam.
The following is the distribution of weightage:
Hope this helps. Thank you.
Hi Sunil,
In order to apply for the individual campuses of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade that is Kolkata and Delhi, you need to apply individually for each of them by filling out two application forms: one for admission at Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi and the other for admission at Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata.
Do keep in mind that the admission is strictly based on merit which means it might so happen that you may get admission at Delhi campus and not at Kolkata or vice-versa or even both and thus you need to consider the two campuses as two different institutions.
BEST WISHES!
Hello Aspirant,
As IIFT is one of the most preferred college by many of the candidates, the cut off is set very high for this particular college to give seats to the most deserving candidates. The cut off varies for different categories. For more details kindly go through this link, https://bschool.careers360.com/articles/iift-cutoff
Good luck!
Indian Institute of Foreign Trade can enjoy nature's beauty in the campus. campus has many facilities like well maintained Gymnasium. You can find Organic Farming facilities and Rain water harvesting facilities also. Mess food is also good. The only problem is transportation, you can't Find Ola, Uber etc. Only Private cars arranged by nearby shops are available which is costly. But if you have your own automobile then you are at safe side.
The college has all the requiredinfrastructure relating to education present. This includes smart classes, tech enabled library, portals such as Bloomberg for research, a finance lab, conference halls, auditorium, and the like. The class are air conditioned and the entire college is WIFI enabled. The hostels are cleaned regularly and the food provided is nutritious and good at taste.
College infrastructure is best in india providing the classes , campus , hostel , playground, nice green environment to all the student to get best from the campus and learn the best from the peers in the campus or in the course.
