You can prepare and appear for the CAT or any other management entrance test and pursue an MBA. Although you have three years of gap, there is no need to worry about this as you will be given an opportunity to justify it during the Personal Interview process. Now, in order to justify this gap, you can do some certificate courses, work in an NGO, pursue something related to your area of interest, etc. This gap year will not directly impact your selection chances in the business school but you should have a valid reason to support you answer. Apart from going for an MBA, you can also look for a job or can appear for any other competitive examination.

The duration of time between the completion of your graduation and your admission to the business school will be considered as a gap year. Therefore, considering the fact that you will complete your graduation in May, 2024 and get admission to an MBA college in May, 2025 after completion of your entire selection process, this will be considered a one-year gap. However, technically it will be a 6 to 7 months gap only between the completion of your graduation and appearance in the entrance examination.

However, there is no need to worry about this one-year gap as you can easily justify it during the Personal Interview process. You can justify this gap by doing Internships, Certificate courses, pursuing something related to your area of interest, making the interviewer realize the need to invest substantial amount of time in entrance exam preparation or by any other legit means. This gap year will not impact your selection chances in the business school.

When you fill out the CAT application form, it clearly states that whether you want to enter the Master's degree details or not. When you click on the 'Yes' tab, then it asks for your Master's degree completion status that whether you have completed you Master's degree or you are still pursuing it. There is no option to enter details of incomplete Post Graduate degree in the CAT application form. Therefore, if you are no longer pursuing the Masters in Science programme, and have left it incomplete, then you should not enter that Master's degree details in the CAT application form.

The Common Admission Test (CAT) is the most important component to get admission to any of the top MBA college. In order to get admission to business schools, you must obtain a good percentile in the CAT. However, scoring a mere percentile in the CAT will not give you a guarantee to get an interview call as many of the business schools have a very complex admission process.

MBA colleges give consideration to a lot of factors while giving an interview call. These factors include CAT score, Class 10, Class 12, and Bachelor's degree marks, work experience, academic, and gender diversity, etc. Having a one-year of work experience will get you some points allotted for work experience. However, your first priority should be to clear the overall and sectional percentile if mentioned by the college.

If you even score somewhere around 99 percentile in the CAT , this will not mean that you will get a confirm Interview call. Therefore, CAT score is not the only criteria but is one of the major criteria for admission.

The marks obtained by you in Class 10, Class 12, and Graduation will play a major role to get a shortlist for the WATPI/ GDPI process and during your final selection. Therefore, you might have good chance to get admission in B-Schools subject to the condition that you must perform well in the CAT followed by the WATPI/ GDPI process.

Some of the best MBA colleges you can expect based on your CAT percentile will be IIMs, IITs, FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, DSE, TISS, SPJIMR, etc.

Hi!

The basic structure of almost all the management entrance examinations conducted for admission to the PGDM/ MBA programme is same. The broad topics include Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, and Quantitative Ability. However, some entrance examinations such as XAT has an additional Decision-Making section and some exams have General Knowledge section. The difficulty level of CAT or XAT depends upon ones level of preparation. Therefore, it is difficult to say that which entrance examination is difficult.

Yes, you can get the Profile-cum-Score-based call from SPJIMR subject to the condition that you achieve the minimum sectional cutoff of 75 percentile in the CAT .

SPJIMR selects candidates based on their profiles. For selection, candidate's overall profile and following factors are considered along with the CAT scores as mentioned below:

  • Academic background- A strong and consistent performance in the Class 10, Class 12, and every year of graduation.
  • Work experience- Relevant work experience for the chosen specialisation. However, work experience is not mandatory and, candidates with no work experience and those with less than five years of work experience can also apply for the PGDM.
  • Versatility and Achievements- Endeavours in diverse fields of interest and achievements in extracurricular activities.

The final selection is based on a composite score, which takes into account the profile of candidates, academic record, CAT/ GMAT scores, work experience (if any), and performance in the two rounds of group interviews. As you have obtained 99 percentile in the CAT, there are good chances that you will get the PI shortlist subject to the condition that you meet the minimum eligibility criteria.

Hello,

Admission in FMS Delhi through CAT 2024 requires high percentiles of scoring, which is always highly competitive since this is considered to be one of the most premier institutions in India. Traditionally, people have got admission in FMS Delhi with even above 99+ percentiles as the call was given to the next round even in the case of the general category.

For specific categories:

  • General: High of around 99.5 percentile or more
  • OBC/NC: Ranges between 90-95 percentile.
  • SC/ST/PwD: Percentile is much lower but competitive, ranging from 80 to 90 percentile.

The scores of CAT have the most weightage in the selection process of FMS. In the present scenario, during the last couple of years, about 60 percent weightage was given to the scores of CAT, while the remaining was provided to other factors, like personal interview, academic performance, and diversity criteria.

Points to Remember

Since VARC is heavily scored, high scoring in it could be crucial. So also, a high score in VARC could be more important since FMS usually focuses on that particular section.

Hi!

A 90 percentile in the CAT is considered to be a good percentile and might fetch you an Interview call from some of the renowned institutions across the country offering the MBA programme. Every year, IIMs release their minimum sectional and overall cutoffs which candidates must obtain as a minimum eligibility in order to be considered to get an Interview call. However, securing a minimum percentile does not guarantee an Interview call as it depends upon various other factors as well such as overall profile of candidates such as Class 10, Class 12, and Graduation marks, work experience, academic background, and gender diversity, etc. Getting an Interview call from an IIM at 90 percentile in the CAT is a difficult task until you either have an exceptional profile or you belong to reserved category.
