Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology (BIET), is one of the prestigious engineering colleges in Suri, West Bengal. The institute offers different undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various streams of engineering. BIET's admission process is designed to select the most meritorious students through a merit-based system.

The admission time for BIET usually overlaps with the academic year, from August-September. Admission to undergraduate courses is done primarily on the basis of scores for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by the West Bengal Board of Examination or the JEE Main conducted by the Central Board of Higher Secondary Examination. Admission to postgraduate courses is done on the basis of GATE scores or on the basis of an entrance exam conducted by MAKAUT (WBUT) and subsequently a personal interview.

Eligibility for undergraduate courses typically includes clearing 10+2 with core subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The candidates applying for B.Tech courses should take the JEE (Main or West Bengal) to qualify for admission. Postgraduate candidates typically need to have a bachelor's degree in the relevant stream of engineering.

Application Process

The admission process for BIET is different based on the program:

For B.Tech programs:

1. Pass the JEE organized by the West Bengal Board of Examination or JEE Main.
2. Refer to the merit list released by the respective exam board.
3. Appear for counseling according to the instructions given by the exam board.
4. If a seat is assigned to BIET, join the institute for document verification and admission procedure.

For M.Tech programs:

1. Qualify in GATE or MAKAUT (WBUT) entrance exam.
2. Submit application for M.Tech in BIET either online or as per the notification.
3. Personal interview will be done with shortlisted candidates.

Degree wise Admission Process

B.Tech: BIET offers five B.Tech programs with an aggregate of 420 seats. Admission for B.Tech programs is based on the scores in JEE conducted by West Bengal Board of Examination or JEE Main. The five B.Tech programs offered are:

• Civil Engineering (120 seats)
• Mechanical Engineering (120 seats)
• Computer Science and Engineering (60 seats)
• Electrical Engineering (60 seats)
• Electronics and Communication Engineering (60 seats)

Applicants must have cleared 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics to be eligible for B.Tech courses.

M.Tech: BIET offers two M.Tech courses:

• Heat Power Engineering (18 seats)
• Manufacturing Engineering (18 seats)

Admission to M.Tech courses is based on GATE scores or an entrance examination by MAKAUT (WBUT), followed by a personal interview. The applicants must hold a B.E./B.Tech degree in the relevant subject to be eligible.
