Purulia Polytechnic, Purulia Admission Process

Purulia Polytechnic, one of the famous technical colleges of Vivekananda Nagar, Purulia, West Bengal. It has diploma courses in different streams of engineering and is affiliated to the West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development (WBSCT&VE&SD). Admission in Purulia Polytechnic is planned for selecting deserving candidates in its different diploma courses.

The institute takes admissions largely through two mediums: the Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnics (JEXPO) for first-year admission and the Vocational Lateral Entry Test (VOCLET) for direct second-year admission into diploma courses. Both these entrance examinations are organized by the WBSCT&VE&SD so that there exists a common and equitable selection procedure for all of the aspirants.

Eligibility norms for Purulia Polytechnic admission differ according to program and stream of admission. For JEXPO, applicants must pass 10th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized board of studies. For VOCLET, applicants with equivalent vocational qualification or ITI are eligible for lateral entry into second-year diploma courses.

Application Process

The process of applying for Purulia Polytechnic is easy and according to the following steps:

1. Registration for Entrance Exam: The students need to register first for JEXPO (for first-year admission) or VOCLET (for lateral entry) on the website of WBSCT&VE&SD. It normally requires submitting an online application form and paying examination fee.

2. Entrance Examination: The candidates must appear for the concerned entrance test (JEXPO or VOCLET) on the date declared. These tests establish the candidate's proficiency in the subject matters pertaining to his intended course of study.

3. Result Announcement: Upon completing the examination, WBSCT&VE&SD announces the results and prepares a merit list accordingly based on the performance of the candidates.

4. Counselling Registration: Shortlisted candidates are also required to register for counseling. This typically involves paying a counseling fee and selecting their preferred institutions and courses.

5. Document Verification: Candidates must get their documents verified at the time of counseling. Documents required are usually:

  • 10th standard mark sheet and pass certificate
  • Caste certificate (if applicable)
  • Domicile certificate
  • JEXPO/VOCLET rank card
  • Other certificates as required by the institute

6. Seat Allotment: Allotments are done during counseling on the basis of the rank of the candidate and seat availability.

7. Fee Payment: Candidates need to pay the admission fee after allotment of a seat in Purulia Polytechnic in order to secure a seat.

8. Return to the Institute: The applicants must reach Purulia Polytechnic on the specified date with all original documents after successful completion of admission process for final verification and starting of their course of study.

Degree wise Admission Process

Purulia Polytechnic offers five principal engineering diploma courses. The admission procedure for all of them is the same, but the seats vary. The division of the courses and their admission process is as follows:

Diploma in Civil Engineering: It has a capacity of 90 seats. Admission is based on the performance of the candidate in JEXPO for first-year admission or VOCLET for lateral admission in second year. It is chosen through counseling based on merit list of these exams.

Diploma in Electrical Engineering: The course with 60 seats has the same admission process as Civil Engineering. The candidates are selected through counseling as per their performance in JEXPO or VOCLET.

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering: This course also has 60 seats with the same admission process through JEXPO and VOCLET exams followed by counseling on merit basis.

Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering: The course also accommodates a lesser intake of 30 seats. The admission process is the same as for other courses, utilizing JEXPO and VOCLET performance for candidate selection.

Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering: The course accommodates 60 seats, and the admission process remains the same as for other departments, utilizing JEXPO and VOCLET performance for candidate selection.
