School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi Admission Process

School of International Studies (SIS) is located within the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) at New Delhi. Specialization is given by SIS in international affairs, politics, and economics. The admission process at SIS aims at selecting students who are of very high caliber and have a burning passion for international relations and global affairs. The admission dates are yet unannounced, but classes usually begin in August-September, which means the process must have started a couple of months before.

For this reason, candidates are encouraged to keep an eye on the official JNU website for any updates regarding admission schedules and deadlines. Programs at SIS usually look for aspirants who have a good academic background in relevant subjects. For master's programs, candidates are generally expected to have a bachelor's degree in a similarly relevant field from a recognized university.

Application Process

It is to be presumed that the following steps would take place based on the widely accepted practices followed by JNU and the other reputed institutes:

1. Online Application: Candidates are required to fill in the online application form available at the JNU official website. This form usually covers an applicant's personal and academic background details as well as program preferences.

2. Document Submission: Applicants must submit scanned copies of the required documents, such as:

  • Passport size photo
  • Valid ID proof
  • Mark sheets and certificates of qualifying examinations (10th, 12th, and Bachelor's)
  • Category certificates (if applicable for reservation quotas)
  • Any other relevant certificates/documents as mentioned by the university.

3. Application Fee Payment: Candidates are required to pay an application fee, normally through online payment.

4. Entrance Exam: SIS probably conducts its own entrance exam for admission to its programs or accepts scores of relevant national-level exams.

5. Interview Round: Shortlisted candidates may appear for interviews, more so in case of niche programs like MA Economics with Specialization in World Economy and MA Politics with International Relations.

6. Publication of Merit List: A merit list would be published based on the performance in entrance examination and/or interview at the university website.

7. Document Verification and Admission: After document verification and admission, fee payment follows by candidates selected.

Degree wise Admission Process

MA Economics with Specialization in World Economy: The two-year program will deeply familiarize students with the various facets of the world economy. Entrance test examination focusing prominently on economics and related disciplines will possibly form part of the admission procedure. Though exact details of the intake have not been specified, the selective nature of the program has thus opened up space for quality education forged in parallel with individual attention.

MA Politics with International Relations expects to accept 62 students in a confirmed intake, suggesting a highly selective process. Admission is based primarily on the candidates' performance in relevant undergraduate studies and their scores in an entrance examination in the areas of political science and international relations. The structure of the course allows nurturing careers in international relations and diplomacy for over two years.
