Considering you are from West Bengal State and have the Home State Domicile Quota, and from General Category the last cutoff at Electrical Engineering IIEST Shibpur this year was 23.4k, while that at NIT Durgapur EE was 29k. So you see you need a minimum target of 20k in JEE Mains for securing a seat in either of NIT Durgapur or IIEST Shibpur, further depending on your choice.
For a Rank of 20k-25k in JEE Mains, considering the increasing competition as well as the liberalisation with more number of students attempting as well as getting a chances to improve their scores in between JEE Mains with 4 Phases of the Examination, you should Target a minimum of 98 percentile for achieving this feat, for which you would nearly need 50% of the Total Score, i.e 150/300. You need both a proper strategy and regular hardwork to achieve this feat. Hope that helps.

Dear Aspirant,
It is necessary for you to furnish the GAP certificate during admission process in NIT Nagpur. The certificate shall mention the requisite dates and the activity associated when you had taken a year drop after school.
The certificate is very easy to make and you can get it made in a non-judicial Stamp paper from the nearby notary shop. You may need to provide some necessary details like your name, address and other stuff which are necessary to make the document.
You should worry about it that much though. It is because the Gap certificate is more of a secondary document and you may even ask for a time period of 15 days from the Institute to submit the valid gap certificate. In some cases, the date is even extended and you shall therefore have plenty of time to get the document ready.
As far as necessity is concerned, then yes this document is extremely important for you as it is one of the documents asked by the authorities in all NITs and IITs during admission time from droppers.
Therefore, get the document ready in order to be furnished during admission process. It won't cost you much and you shall be able to get your hands on that document with ease.
I wish you a great journey ahead and may you have a prosperous career in the future. Good Luck.
Hi.
Since you have not mentioned rank, i can only estimate it to be around 165679 - 120612
So according to the closing ranks of 2019, for
1) NIT Durgapur
You will not be able to get admission into any branch, even for SC Category, the closing ranks have been below 10,000 for all branches.
2) NIT Jamshedpur
Similar is the case for NIT Jamshedpur. Closing ranks for SC Category have been below 10,000
If you have a specific query, please feel free to comment.
Best of Luck.
Hello student ,
I will suggest you to go for NIT DURGAPUR as it has a experienced and good team of faculty in every department that has been delivering quality education since decades . Further if we talk about placement then many companies visit the college for placements and adding on to it, the DSP nearby provides a huge advantage to the students in terms of the placements. The students are offered decent pay packages, and the college records a good average and top pay packages.
Hope it helps !
Hello Aspirant ,
Sorry to say but not Good. There is a mismatch between degree and the role you get to play in the organisation, in may be 90% of the cases.Case can be a student who received an M Tech. degree in Thermal Engineering will get placed in companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, IBM where they will get the role of system engineer. And I hope this is best thing that can happen. Worst case is obviously remaining unplaced that too with a post graduate degree.
Hello student,
The cutoff ranks for every college changes every year, so it is very hard to predict that you will definitely get the seat from a college based on previous year cutoff ranks. So if you wanna upgrade your college apply for it but keep a hold of the college you were allotted to. So even if you were unable to get a seat in other colleges you will have a seat from previous allotted college.
Hello Aspirant,
I would recommend you IIEST Shibpur for civil engineering because both the college's are great in terms of infrastructure, facilities, faculty etc but when our branch and it's placements and learning is concerned IIEST Shibpur wins over NIT Durgapur as NIT Durgapur is great for CS students but for civil engineering IIEST Shibpur is great as it has witnessed students with great placements with attractive salary packages.
Hope this helps
Good Luck
Recently in NIT Durgapur the Research Excellence Building was inaugurated, which will positively impact the college reputation and overall ranking, the food quality in hostel mess is excellent and healthy, the college has two grounds for sports and a large library with numerous collections of books is present in the central library, Classroom are neat and clean and are digital.
Its a decent NIT with good infrastructure with good libraries canteen cafeteria hostel for boys and girls. Though class rooms are not in good position some are non ac room, benches are uncomfortable in 2025, but renovation is going on.
The institution's infrastructure requires significant improvements to meet modern standards. Many buildings show signs of age and neglect, impacting the overall learning environment. While some areas have been renovated, the labs and classrooms are noticeably outdated. This aging infrastructure affects the quality of equipment and resources available to students. Modernization is crucial to enhance the learning experience and provide students with the tools they need. Investing in updated facilities would greatly benefit both students and faculty. A comprehensive renovation plan is necessary to address these critical infrastructure needs and elevate the institution's standing.
