    College Infrastructure

The structure of college is not at all good. Our class is in First year block. The classes are not so spacious. There is no CCTV in the entire First Year block. The college is not having playground and no auditorium. The chemistry and physics labs are closed due to construction. There are two canteens. There are two hostels inside campus. Currently, one more is under construction. The campus is not so clean due to construction.

    Academics

I am doing B.tech in Genetics. I chose this stream as i had keen interest in bio and genetics. The education is waste here. No teacher is interested in taking classes properly. The time table keeps on changing. The new faculty is not at all supportive. The syllabus is very short as compare to other colleges. The curriculum keeps on updating. Instead of teaching the widely used international language like German or French. They are teaching Japanese which is only used in Japan.

    Placements

The quality of placement in my college is average. Previous year around 60%-70% students got placements. Rest of them either applied for off-campus jobs or opted for higher studies. The Highest salary package previous year was 27LPA to a CS student. Average package lie in the range of 6LPA to 7LPA. The college is trying their level best for improving the placements in college. Many companies come with job offers every year.

    Value for Money

I pay 80 thousand per year. They gave scholarship on my marks of intermediate. They also charge 15 thousand per year in the name of Career development fees. It is not at all worth as the education is worst. The faculty aren't so good. I live in girls hostel. It is the worst hostel of my life. Hundreds of restrictions and few rules. No video calls allowed, no outing after 5:30, no weekend outing. I mean its the worst hostel ever.

    Campus Life

The campus life is very boring. If any girl and a boy sit together, the teacher will scold. There are many restrictions inside campus. A proper dress code is followed inside campus. The ID card is must. The teachers are not supportive. We were not given even the freshers party. There is no cultural fest and function organised by campus. No entertainment inside campus. I did a big mistake by getting admission in this college.

    Improving academics and no fests

    College Infrastructure

The college buildings are not much clean and secured as there are no CCTV cameras in the entire first-year block. Our classes are not cleaned for several days and are similar like school classrooms. There is no CCTV in classes also. Sometimes there is power cut, no water in RO. The washrooms are damaged. The laboratories are changed to medical classrooms and right now there are no lab. The workshop building is currently under renovation. The canteens are good. The campus is not so clean.

    Academics

I am pursuing B.tech in Aerospace engineering. I am first year student. We were given details of various software which will be taught in upcoming years. Currently, everything is fine regarding teaching. The faculty is good and supportive. The syllabus is short and contains all the important topics. They have also included Japanese language in first year syllabus. exams are conducted after every 2-3 weeks for name sake. Many faculties have an experience of more than 25 years. There are great.

    Placements

The college is trying their best to improve the placement records in all the branches. Previous year around 60%-70% got placed in companies. Many of the students opted for higher studies and applied for off-campus jobs. The college is really supportive to students. in upcoming years, they will definitely improve their placement percentages.

The cost of aerospace branch to me is 60 thousand per year. the college offers scholarships to students on the basis of marks obtained in intermediates. Along the tuition fees, they also charge 15 thousand per year as Career development Fees. I feel like I am getting my money's worth as the education is gonna be great in upcoming years. The hostel fees varies for AC and non-AC rooms.

    Campus Life

The campus life is not so exciting as we are bounded by many restrictions. The college is least interested in sports and other cultural fests. The college authorities are strict towards ragging inside campus. The campus is located in Tambaram which is near to railway station and around 18 km from Chennai Airport. The college has its own hospital inside campus. There is a lake behind campus.

    College Infrastructure

The college buildings are not at all good and clean. Our classrooms are not so big and have no CCTV inside. The entire first-year block has no CCTV for security purpose. The labs are closed due to construction and workshop building is still under construction. The college constructed buildings on playground and now there is no ground for playing. There are only few classes with smart boards. Behind campus, there is a lake which is very dirty and due to which there are many mosquitoes in hostel.

I don't get my money's worth as the education is not good in current phase. In fact the girls hostel is very worst. Here, restrictions are more than rules. No outing after 5:30 PM in evening. We cant do video calls in hostel. We cant go out even on weekends. The warden just do what she feels is correct.

    Campus Life

The campus life is too boring. There is no fest and no function organised inside campus. There are lots of restrictions for girls. Sometimes we are being scold for just talking to a boy in class. Some teachers are narrow minded. The campus is in Selaiyur, Tambaram. It is near to Tambaram railway station and Chennai airport. The college has its own hospital which is of no use. They will prefer to go and get check-up outside.

The best way to learn about it is to go do it. Rob's suggestions of an intro course or a tutorial is a great way to get started, but really what you should do is try to solve some problem with NLP.

Here's how you might do that. Go download NLTK (Natural Language Toolkit). Then build some software that does something cool.

    Here are some ideas:

Run a bunch of different POS taggers on some text and characterize the differences. Which is better for what domain? Do they make similar mistakes?
Build a sentiment analysis system and run it on a bunch of reviews, or tweets about something. See what mistakes it's making and figure out how to make it better. What features should you use that can help it do better? Find out if people liked the Interview, or whatever the movie du jour is!
Write a system to detect spam reviews on review sites. You can find a huge dataset here: Detect Fake Reviews and Reviewers or a smaller one here: http://myleott.com/op_spam/.
Build a system for some other language. Text segmentation in Chinese is fun and hard, but really pick any problem and apply it to another language, and you'll learn a huge amount about your assumptions about what works and what doesn't work.
None of these things will work well on your first try -- a key lesson in NLP, actually -- so the main thing you should focus on, once you get a baseline system working, is to figure out how to make your system better. That's 90+% of the effort in NLP.

    Best of luck
