It was a bold step creating a department dedicated to the study of Earth and it's geological reliefs. I find it really interesting as this department has something which overlaps with almost all the other departments here. For example there is a big overlap with Material Science and Physics, then a substantial overlap exists with Civil and Chemical. And if you go deeper you'll also see it's overlap with Electrical (in case you are concentrating on pizo electic natural elements found in earth’s crust) and CSE(which you need for the analysis of topologies and other stuffs)So I'm pretty sure it'll be a super interesting journey.
Hello Amit,
The Chemistry department offers the following programs to undergraduate students at IITK – BS, dual degree, double major and minor. I will get to the specifics of each of these one and minors in other departments. If you wish to know more about the undergraduate programs in Chemistry and other departments, you can find it here - majors in both cases. The double major program allows students from other departments to major in Chemistry. These students can complete all the courses that are a requirement for a BS degree in Chemistry by extending their degree by a year. Apart from these minors are offered in Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry to students from other departments. These students are required to complete a set of courses within the four years of their undergraduate degree to receive a Minor in Chemistry. Needless to say, students from the Chemistry department may also opt for dual degrees, double differs program. This option is available to students of the chemistry department and other departments too, though the course structures five year courses. This is still the case in other IITs. The Dual Degree program allows to you opt for an MS in the Chemistry department by extending your degree to a 5 year course. Among the IITs, IITK is the only IIT that offers a four year BS program (which started in 2011). IITK offers a BS degree in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Statistics and Economics. Until 2010, degrees in these departments were offered in the Integrated MSc programs which were three year course as opposed to the BSc program which is a four year by one. Not a lot of candidates understand what the BS program is as most people confuse this with the BSc Programs. The BS program offers a Bachelor of Science degree similar to the BSc program.
Thank you
IIT doesn't take the admission with the UPSEE ranks. IIT organize there own entrance i.e. JEE MAINS & ADVANCE for the admission into various IIT'S. You can appear for the entrance and after qualifying with very good ranks you can get the admission in IIT.
Hello,
Congratulations for securing a seat in JEE ADVANCED.
This is according to my opinion and experience.
First of all academics are important.I’d say all the IIT’s you mentioned are awesome. if you want order. IITM>IITKGP>IITK>IITR.
Placements-IITM>IITKGP>IITK>IITR. placements totally depend on you and what you do in institute because most of the companies visit all the IIT’s.
Brand value and alumni - IITM>IITK>IITKGP>IITR.
Scope- it totally depends on the departments in the institute.you can go in any way you want. there are many people who joined CS and ended up doing DDP in Bio-tech. IITKGP>IITM>IITK>IITR.
proximity to Metropolitan city - IITM>IITK>IITKGP>IITR.
hostel life is worst in all iits so you dont have to worry about it.
Area(acres)- IITKGP(2100)>IITK(1000)>IITM(620)>IITR(325)
Weather- IITK>IITR(cold)>IITKGP>IITM(too hot).
Ranking of 2016 - IITM>IITKGP>IITK>IITR.
overall - IITM>IITK>IITKGP>IITR.
according to me if you can take heat IITM is the best because chennai has many industries.Strict attendance makes you go to all classes.Good overall experience because of saarang, shaastra, tech clubs, cultural clubs etc. IITM also has CFI where students do all kind of stud stuff.
All the best :).
