The campus of IIT Roorkee is a white beauty. The place is to look for forever. The campus has every needed and well maintained infrastructure. The hostels are well maintained and hygienic with good food.
The academics offered in the campus are excellent. The faculty is top notch and all of them high designation. The syllabus is well updated according to the recent changes which makes and grooms you for fututre.
The quality of placement is up to IIT mark. The percentage is maximum with above average packages offered to many of them. The process is made look easy and convenient because of the support of the college.
IIT is known for there lavish facilities and brilliant academics but iit roorkee has something more to offer , the most beautiful building, god's own campus. The facilities provided are brilliant ranging from the basics to advance needs.
The PhD life looks easy doing with roorkee the professor are so kind and friendly, with a great way of teaching. The training is provided according to the developments going on in the external environment.
The placements at iit roorkee are nothing to be doubtful of. They achieve 100% placement and that also at great names and location. The package range is also above average for maximum number of students.
The hostel is the best with good infrastructure. Infrastructure is highly furnished, and classroom libraries are neat and clean. A vibrant and dynamic environment for studying and a sports complex with highly equipped items are there. The hostel is cleaned properly and proper maintenance of the ground, etc., is done. Other colleges have better infrastructure than Roorkee.
Teachers are very helpful and cooperative in teaching, helping, and assistance. They have the best knowledge and understanding of subjects. They take care of well-being, mental health, and academic and non-academic things. New courses are introduced as per the requirements.
Most of the students who prepared well got placed. The highest package offered was 44 LPA, the average package was 11 LPA, and the lowest was 6 LPA.Overall placements are average, but the main key factor is Roorkee not being a metro city as compared to other IITs.
Main building is obviously a point where everyone got caught with stuck their eyes on it and lecture hall complex are also made with modern technologies and well furnished. And hostels are good but can be improved.
Academis is good. Well everyone here are IITians so not that much dependent on profesors but yaa still professors are good at some point. Most of the profesors come and go but some of them are real gems who care about students.
Placements are good but still with comparison of other IITs Roorkee have least placement opportunities. Like I remember IIT BHU have better placement states than us so I won't recommend that you should come to this college only because of placements.
Like I pay 1.5 lakh per semester and I feel like college invest more than it on us so it is actually value for money. But I think mess fee is more than they give to us so I'll ask them to reduce the fee or give some other better stuff.
I'll recommend every and each person to visit once but please try to park your vehicle outside the campus just you know traffic problems ruin all the enjoyment. Like I personally roam around campus whole night so you can take a idea from me
IIT Roorkee main building is way more better than any other college in India.
It’s been 5 months of joining this college it’s really great with very good greenery all over consists of great infrastructure having all necessary things and very good vibes come very positivity all over the campus world best infrastructure is there
Academics is very chill and professors are very supportive not very much classes study material is available online with meets world class best faculty helps lot to improve ur grades and help in any necessarily
Placement is pretty good lots of reputed company come every year with very good packages and there are also extra classes for regarding placement sessions grooming and interview skills improved that lot of help
It’s really worth it in terms of ROI as placements are very good so not a big deal and fees is also very decent and there are lot of scholarships programs available where anyone has such money related issue can be resolved.
The facilities and infrastructure in the department are well-designed. Wi-Fi facilities connect labs and classrooms. The library has a wide range of books. The canteen serves Chinese, North Indian, and South Indian cuisine, providing the best food.
The teachers are helpful in teaching all concepts, with 5 to 15 years of experience. They teach well, and the course is relevant, making students industry-ready and providing hands-on experience. However, semester exams are challenging to pass.
The percentage of students placed is 69%. The highest package is 26 LPA, and the lowest package is 2.7 LPA for freshers. Companies such as Information Teach, IBM, Infosys, and more recruit from our course. The course offers internship opportunities.
The environment is very positive
The ECE department is very well-equipped with labs having the newest machinery and tools. 2 study rooms and high-speed WI-FI. For the hostel, I would say it is average. We have been given a single room with a cupboard, study table, Bed and fan. I don’t like the mess food too much as it lacks taste and variety.
The teachers here are well knowledgeable and intelligent. The teaching quality is good. Yes, the courses are related to their passion if they are ready to continue with the same interest. The semester examination is medium hard; papers will be prepared by faculty themselves.
The total strength of my branch is 54 and as you know Physics is an interesting and baffling subject you can prefer course. Companies like Amazon, Flipkart, and many startups to top companies will recruit students here. Based on your CG, you will get a better internship too.
Very good college.
Our hostel is awesome. Radhakrishanan Bhawan has free unlimited Wi-Fi, LAN, gym, canteen, TV room, elevator, indoor game complex, etc. The department of mathematics has a library, free Wi-Fi, and great supportive professors. The quality of food served in the hostel was average. But breakfast used to be great at our time. Classes are conducted in the lecture hall complex, which was at a distance of 10-15 minutes from our hostel.
Teachers are highly intelligent, and their quality is as par course. They are really helpful in our courses. The course curriculum is great, and even a lot of core branches students take our courses as additional. Semester exams are not that tough to pass. If a student takes classes seriously and studies for a decent amount of time, then they can easily get good grades.
majority of students from our batch got placed in reputed companies. The highest salary package offered was 40 LPA, and the average salary package offered was 10 LPA. Top recruiting companies like Adobe, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft India, Mastercard, JP Morgan, Oracle, Oyo, TCS, Wipro, etc., visit the college for placements. Almost all students got placed. Some students opted for higher studies, and some went for civil services exam preparation. We PhD student got many opportunities in companion.
All the facilities are very helpful
The facilities and infrastructure available for my course, like Wi-Fi, are pretty good. Labs are fully equipped with new instruments; the library is full of books and digital libraries too. The classroom is way big enough to be totally aired. The quality of hostels is good; new hostels are the best. They have better facilities than the old ones. But the old ones are getting renovated. Mess food quality depends on the day. It's mostly good,Canteen food is much more tasty than mess food. Students depend on canteen food.
Teachers are really qualified. All have done Ph.D.s from foreign universities. And they totally qualified. But they are helpful all the time. Some are helpful, but you can't expect everyone to be.course is relevant if you want to go into the Engineering field. But not in the teaching field. Exams that are difficult are average. majority it depends on proffs. Almost 90% student students pass the exams.
the placements are good when compared also gets good placements More than 85% students get placed in campus placements, which are held mostly between march and April. The top companies like Reliance, Tcs, Wipro, BSNL, etc. will come to hire us Nitwians. Also, many students get placed in IT companies as well. In 3rd year, we go for internships, as internships are necessary for college CGPA. Also, most students also go for research rather than internships as per their interests. Top roles like service engineer, telecom engineer, electronics engineer, and network planning engineer also offered by companies.
The infrastructure facilities are too good here and with well maintainance. It's one of the oldest buildings on campus. Labs are new and good. The Wi-Fi facility is good in the hostel and on campus. The library is very old and has a vast variety of books. Hostel rooms are quite congested and old. Food was average and really good There will be a special dinner every month. Sports activity is a must in the first year, and medical facilities are good.
Coming to the teaching facilities are very helpful they are highly qualified and experienced.the faculty members are generally well-qualified and experienced, holding advanced degrees from prestigious institutions. Exams are generally challenging, designed to test a deep understanding of the subject matter. The exams often include a mix of theoretical questions, problem-solving exercises, and practical assessments.
Placements were good till last year in my course. Now they have reduced. The average package this year has even reduced. Placements this year are not good. The highest package was being 88 Lacs, and from our branch was around 50 LPA. Recruiting companies include Google, Microsoft, Wipro, and so on. Students get good internships from good companies.
Hi dear candidate,
Both of these are IITs and hold their own reputation but still there are few differences:
If we talk about placements, then it is to be noted that Hyderabad is an IT hub and IIT Hyderabad is known to have higher packages in mechanical field.
ALL THE BEST !
Comparing IIT Roorkee Mechanical and IIT Ropar Mechanical in terms of MNC placements:
IIT Roorkee has a long-established reputation with strong industry ties and typically sees higher placement rates and some very high salary offers in Mechanical. Many top MNCs like Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs visit regularly.
IIT Ropar is newer but growing fast, with good connections to big MNCs too. Their average packages are competitive, especially in core branches, and companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google also recruit here.
But On Bottom line:
For Mechanical specifically, Roorkee generally has a slight edge in MNC placements and packages due to its longer legacy and network. But Ropar is catching up and offers great opportunities with some big names too.
Both are solid choices — if you want a more established brand and higher chances of top MNCs, go Roorkee. If you want to be part of a newer IIT with growing opportunities, Ropar is good too.
Candidates must have completed a B.E./B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institute.
A minimum of 60% aggregate marks (or 6.0 CGPA out of 10) is generally required. For SC/ST/PwD candidates, a relaxation of 5% is usually applicable.
A valid GATE score in Mechanical Engineering (ME) is essential for regular admission.
Candidates who have completed their B.Tech from any IIT with a high CGPA (usually above 8.0 or 8.5) may be eligible for direct admission without a GATE score.
For IIT Roorkee and IIT Kanpur, this provision mainly applies to IIT B.Tech graduates.

After qualifying GATE, candidates must register on the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Offers for M.Tech admission are communicated through COAP based on GATE scores.
Application to IITs Separately:
Candidates must also apply separately on the official websites of IIT Roorkee and IIT Kanpur for M.Tech programs. Personal, academic, and GATE details must be filled carefully.
Direct admission is mostly offered based on GATE scores without any interviews or written tests for regular M.Tech programs.
For some specializations or research-based M.Tech programs, candidates might be called for a written test or interview.
The Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department offers various M.Tech specializations.
High GATE scorers typically get direct admission into the program.
The Mechanical Engineering Department offers a two-year M.Tech program with strong research exposure.
Selection is primarily through GATE scores. In some cases, written tests or interviews may be conducted depending on the specialization.
Admission notifications are usually released around March to April every year.
Required documents include GATE scorecard, academic certificates, identity proof, and category certificates (if applicable).
M.Tech students usually receive a stipend of Rs 12,400 per month under the Ministry of Education norms after GATE qualification.
COAP conducts multiple rounds for offer acceptance, so candidates must regularly check the portal for updates.
