Hello,

Hope you're doing well.

Indian institute of technology, Madras is better than IIT patna, for electrical engineering. But then, this highly depends on your interests- whether to choose chemical engineering or electrical engineering. I'll highlight some of the key points related to theese two institutions:

  • IIT Madras has a NIRF ranking of 1, whereas Iit patna has a rank of 26.
  • Median salary for btech is 13.5 lpa at iit madras and 10 lpa at iit patna.
  • Fees is compatitively lesser at IIT madras.

Dear parent,

As your son got 3785 rank in JEE advanced to the and I am assuming that he got this rank from the general category and he can easily get many good iits along with IIT Madras which is top IIT in India.

Now if he wants to choose branches chemical engineering, metallurgical and materials engineering, and biological engineering then in josaa counselling his preferred order should be chemical engineering after that metallurgical and materials engineering and after that biological engineering .
Because the scope of chemical engineering is much better than metallurgical and biological engineering. And also the placement records of chemical engineering is better in iitm than metallurgical and biological engineering.
Also it is one of the trending and demanding branches in India.
And after that metallurgical and materials engineering has greater scope than biological engineering.

But as per seeing the last year cutoff trend of chemical engineering, then your son has low chances to get chemical engineering in IIT Madras this year, but still his preferred order should be chemical engineering first in IIT Madras in josaa counseling.

Also check out our jee advanced college predictor tool to get an appropriate idea of iits that your son can get on basis of his jee advanced rank :-

Hey aspirant,

Data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are two of the most important fields in technology which will play a critical role in the future. Both the courses are valuable and can be beneficial for you in the future.

IIT Madras is undoubtedly the best college in India and studying there would be really helpful for your career because of the placements, exposure, opportunities for industry-wide collaboration and chances of international exchange programs with top universities of the world. Studying at an IIT campus, that too the best in the country is obviously an advantage. With this course, you can go on to be a Data Scientist, which is one of the most in-demand jobs in the world, as well as highly paid one. You can also go on to do further research, study abroad etc.

If you are aspiring to be an engineer in the field of AI and Machine Learning, then you can go for this course at Chandigarh University, which is also one of the top engineering colleges. Though definitely not as good as IIT Madras, it also has good placements compared to other private institutes. AI and Machine Learning is also a great field to choose which will have a lot of scope in the future.

Hope it helps. All the best!

Hey!

As per the colllege life, IIT Madras  campus is more beutiful and has good ambiance than IIT kanpur. Also, IN IITM you neet to have compulsory 85% in subjects and in IITK there is no such rule. Faculty members are experienced in both the campuses. IITK has good quality food in cheaper rates whereas in IITM its quite expensive. Also, in IITK you can change your stream after 3rd semester also but it is applicable upto 1st semester in IITM. However, coming to the placements, IITS re the well known institutes for placements and knowledge so, it is excellent in both the campuses.

Thankyou

Dear candidate,

To secure a seat in IIT Madras you must fulfill at least one of the following criteria:

  • Besides JEE advanced or mains, if you fall under the top 20 % of the candidates who successfully cleared their respective 10+2 board examinations then you can easily get in. (min of 75% is a necessity overall)
  • or have achieved the minimum cut off marks in your respective categories in JEE advanced, thus you should clear JEE advanced and must have a decent rank.
(The admission depends upon the seats remaining after each counselling.)

The cut off percentile are provided in the link below: https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/jee-advanced-cutoff-for-iit-madras

Hello Aspirant,

As you have not mentioned your category so assuming it as general.

See as we know that cut-offs for this year has not been declared because the counselling has not started yet so we can guide you according to previous year's cut-offs. If we go through previous year's cut-offs, then it suggests that you cannot get any branch in IIT Madras if you are male and if you are female then you can get following branches :-

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Metallurgical and Materials Engineering
  • Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering

Note that the above data is according to previous year's cut-offs and cut-offs are bound to change every year depending upon various factors.

For more details about previous year's cut-offs, you can refer to the PDF file given in the link below :-
