Hello Manohar,

With 962 marks in board exams and 79.6 percentile in JEE Mains, you should have chances at SASTRA University (at either Thanjavur campus or Kumbakonam campus). They solely depend on Stream 1 merit list (12 marks+JEE score) for admission, and also

Stream 2 - based on only board marks. Your score is reasonable, and you do have good chances in some of the branches - not the top branches like CSE as they are competitive. I would suggest you to apply under both streams.

Hello Aspirant,

SASTRA University (CSE) has its own positives, and TS EAMCET colleges have their own positives, but your personal preference depends on the long-term objectives:

  1. SASTRA University is a good deemed university with good academic discipline and placement records (especially for IT services) and proper infrastructure. If you are looking for an structure that is consistent and risk-free planning, SASTRA University is a good option.
  2. With your 8k rank in TS EAMCET in the General category you will probably get into an average state government college i.e. OU or JNTU (or probably a top regional college), which have less fees and probably worthy student competition (referred as Peer value) than SASTRA University. That being said, if your interest lies in core technology work roles, coding culture, or considering government jobs these colleges have more flexibility and value to you

Dear Candidate

With a Tamil Nadu Rank (TNR) of 4099 and an All-India Rank (AIR) of 11789 under Stream 1 at SASTRA University, you have a moderate to good chance of getting admission in Mechanical Engineering or related fields, depending on the campus and the counselling round. The Thanjavur main campus typically sees Mechanical Engineering closing around TNR 3000 to 4000. However, there have been times when the cutoff extended slightly in later rounds. This means you still have a chance, especially if some seats remain unfilled. Your prospects improve even more if you consider mechanical-related courses like Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Science, which often have slightly lower cutoffs. At the Kumbakonam campus, the chances are better since the cutoffs for Mechanical and related branches tend to be more flexible. It is a good idea to participate in all rounds of counselling and keep your branch preferences open to boost your chances of admission. If you are interested in mechanical systems and engineering design, courses such as Mechatronics or Aerospace can provide a solid academic and career foundation.

Hello naveen kumar,

Deciding between SASTRA University (Mechanical) and a local EAMCET college (CSE) will mainly come down to your long term career goals and reputation of the college you will be attending.

  • If you want to focus on coding, have aspirations for IT jobs, or are interested in tech start ups - then a CSE from a decent local EAMCET college will probably provide you with more job opportunities, internships, and placements in the software sector.
  • If you like the reputation of SASTRA, find it to have a superior overall reputation in general, have more infrastructures (libraries, sports, etc.), and are fine with committing to a Mechanical Engineering program but want to pursue a career in core jobs, public sector jobs and or interdisciplinary job areas so it will still open doors and you could also self-train in the software or information space if you desired.

Based on past trends and expected cutoffs, for B.Tech in Biotechnology, Sastra University generally admits candidates with JEE Main All India Ranks (AIR) between 9,000 and 13,000 under Stream 1 (JEE Main plus Class 12 weightage). Under St ream 2 (based only on Class 12 marks), the closing rank has historically been much lower, typically under 3,000.

With Rank 3996 (Stream 1) and 1083 (Stream 2) in SASTRA:

CSE/IT: Not likely in either stream.

Other branches (like ECE, Mechanical):

Possible in Stream 2

Slight chance in Stream 1 (later rounds)

Final admission depends on branch choice, category, and counseling rounds.

You should apply in both streams and attend all rounds for better chances.

hi,

Yes, with a rank of 4406 in SASTRA University Stream 2, you have a good chance to get Mechanical Engineering. Stream 2 seats are given based on Class 12 marks, and your rank is quite decent for getting a seat in Mechanical.Students with similar ranks usually get admission in this branch. Since you are from Andhra Pradesh, you are fully eligible for admission because SASTRA accepts students from all over India.

Hey, that’s an awesome TNR – 330 in Stream 1 is seriously impressive! Based on past trends at SASTRA University, you’re in a really strong position for admission into top branches.

With that rank, getting B.Tech CSE is almost guaranteed. SASTRA fills its seats in Stream 1 mostly through JEE Main score combined with board marks, and ranks under 500 typically get the most in-demand courses, especially in the first round itself.

As for CSE (Specialization) – like CSE with Data Science or AI – it’s usually just a bit more competitive than core CSE, but you’re comfortably within range for that too. These specializations are in high demand, but they don’t usually close before rank 400–500, so you're safe.

B.Tech IT is even more accessible with your rank, so if for any reason you wanted that as a backup, it's definitely going to be available. But with your TNR, you should be aiming right at CSE or CSE with specialization.

Hey there,

I understand your problem but it is very uncommon ,here are few things you can do

Spam or Promotions folders: Often, confirmation emails can land there—try searching for addresses like “@sastra.edu” or keywords like “application” or “admission.”

Correct email address: Make sure you entered your email correctly in the application form (even a small typo could cause non delivery).

Visit the official SASTRA admissions portal.

Use your application number to check the status.

If you forgot your login credentials, you can request a username/password reset via email to [email protected] with the subject “Application Number UN/PW Request” .

With a rank of 1565, you are well above the typical cutoff for general CSE (~400), and strongly positioned for the AI & DS track.

While no official cutoffs are published, historical data and student trends indicate that ranks even above 4000 can make it in later rounds—so at 1565, you should have a solid shot, even in early counseling rounds.

If you miss in round 1, be sure to stick through round 2 or merge rounds, as many AI & DS seats fill during later round
